Churchill War Rooms

The Churchill War Rooms are on Trip Advisors Top Ten Things to do in London. I suggest a visit if you enjoy Word War Two history, and are fascinated by the famous Prime Minister. The Churchill Museum is a bit more interesting than the war rooms themselves, which are a series of rooms under the Treasury in Westminster. They used to be storage rooms, until the Blitz began when they were hurriedly transformed into the cabinet war rooms, to be used as the headquarters for the British Military. A closely guarded secret at the time, these rooms have since become a national monument to remember one of the greatest wars ever fought. The war rooms themselves are small and can insight claustrophobia if there are too many people looking at one room at a time. Most of them have been reconfigured to better hold viewers walking through, but there are still rooms (especially the kitchen and the map rooms).

Halfway through the walkthrough of the rooms, the Churchill Museum welcomes visitors to the life of Winston Churchill. He was a fascinating man who was a war hero many times over. He has been remembered as one of the greatest men in history and is closely associated with the victory of the Allied forces in WWII. Nicknamed the "British Bulldog" he is remembered for being very stubborn and never yielding to the opposition. His life was very interesting, and reading his old diary entries and learning about his lonely childhood offers further understanding of his work ethic later on in his life. Winston Churchill played an instrumental role in the creation of modern British identity. He was notoriously suspicious of fascism and communism, which led him to foresee some of the issues that arose in Europe during and after the war. He didn't back down from the threat of the Nazis invading and through the magic of speeches and radio, he rallied the British people and kept their spirits up during a dark time. He worked hard to never show weakness, despite his ailing health. He kept the classic stiff upper lip that the British are known for, and led the way for Britain to be seen as a firm and strong enemy against Germany. Many great things have been said about this man, and many more will probably be said.
